Art Historian Discovers Long-Lost Portrait of Henry VIII in Background of Social Media Post🎨🖼️

Excerpt from Smithsonian Mag:

‘Earlier this month, art historian Adam Busiakiewicz was scrolling through X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, when a particular post caught his eye. Shared by Tim Cox, the British crown’s representative in Warwickshire, the snapshot showed a reception at the local shire hall. But it was the background of the photo, not the figures in it, that caught Busiakiewicz’s attention: Next to a door marked by a neon exit sign hung a portrait of the English king Henry VIII, nestled in a frame topped by a rounded arch.

He immediately suspected that this was no ordinary portrait of the famed Tudor monarch.

“Social media is a crazy thing,” Busiakiewicz tells CNN’s Lianne Kolirin, “because some people use it to watch cat videos and follow what’s going on in the world, and then people like me just look at what people have hanging on their walls.”’

Neat. Thast would make great episode of "Treasures in the Attic" (British TV), or Antiques Roadshow (u.S.) Either way, it's cool. But, why was it considered lost? Surely a record of the purchase would still exist.

Great. You would think they would then move it to a National Museum in London....if not the residence of the current Kings of England. But no. It will reside in Warwickshire. The English are weird. Henry the 8th deserves better. Sorry Henry !!!

Yea well he is an art historian so he is probably looking at the art in picture, in real life, in video, everywhere his eyes are maybe drawn more to paintings in the background because that’s his career and training and life. Perhaps we wouldnt look at it in the same way. I like your profile pic btw 🤘

Thanks brother...agreed, and the pic was probably a little larger than the one I was looking at on my phone. Interesting story about the portrait though...
