THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — A gunman shot a sheriff's deputy and around six other people inside a country-and-western bar and dance club in Southern California on Wednesday night, authorities said.

Ventura County sheriff's Capt. Garo Kuredjian said he could not confirm whether any of those shot were dead.

He described the situation as still active.

"We're still looking for the shooter," Kuredjian said. "We can't confirm that the shooter is in custody."

Kuredjian said hundreds of people were inside the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks at 11:20 p.m., and shots were still being fired when deputies arrived.

It was college night and country two-step lessons were being offered Wednesday at the Borderline, according to its website.

It has been "quite some time" since there was a shooting of any kind in Thousand Oaks, a city of about 130,000 people about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Los Angeles, just across the county line.

Nick Steinwender, student body president at nearby California Lutheran University, rushed to the scene when he heard about a shooting at the bar where he knew friends and fellow students were inside.

"It was chaos, people jumping out of windows, people hopping over gates to get out" Steinwender told KABC-TV.

He said he heard from people inside that they were hiding in bathrooms and the attic of the bar.

It was reportedly college night at the bar.

Wow, another one...

One of the fatalities,

"A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy is among those killed in the Borderline Bar & Grill shooting.

Sgt. Ron Helus had been on the force for 29 years and was one of the first officers on the scene in response to 911 calls of shots fired. He was looking to retire in the "next year or so," Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters.

The sergeant died in hospital, Dean added."

Here are some photos - no gore - taken mostly last night.

how long til nice aftermath pics?
That will be a while and won't consist of much except for exterior photos of the club, law enforcement, survivors and maybe a few taken from outside through a window of the club of investigators in their white suits.

The bodies will probably be there, left in place, for atleast another 10 hrs or more as they piece things together - so they'll be nothing of the bar's interior today or even tomorrow.

What might surface is one or two vids taken by people inside when it happened along with screenshots from various other vids taken outside.

More Update Stuff...

As for the Sheriff's Deputy who was killed, authorities have reported that he was one of the first cops to arrive and was shot 3 times when he got to the front door or when he entered the bar.

Also, it's likely that the gunman committed suicide as police closed in: he was already dead when they entered.

A Name - the Shooter...

The suspected gunman in last night's deadly shooting has been identified as 28-year-old Ian David Long, according to Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean.

Long, a US Marine Corps veteran, used a .45 caliber Glock during the shooting, the sheriff said.

Authorities had "minor" run-ins with Long in the past.

There sure are a lot of mass shootings in Commiefornia. Their strict and stupid gun laws don't seem to have any effect on this type of person, and never will.
