I love numbers because they cant lie, but people can and your comment made me go look for some. In 2023 (because apparently estimates in 2024 for both countries are not reliable) the Brazilian police killed an estimated 6,393 civilians. That estimate was made by the UN. In 2023 police in the US killed an estimated 1,329 civilians (which is reportedly a record high for our country) . That estimate was made by an organization called Campaign Zero, which I've learned is a group that compiles data to advocate for reducing police violence in the US.
