Not a cheap system. Everyone who works full-time in a company has to pay in. You pay 50% and the company pays the other 50% of the rate.
It's a good business too and the insurances in general became very rich over the times, but at least everyone can afford to go to a doc/hospital if necessary. Nice side effect.
It started in 1883 for workers in the industry, mining, railroad, etc. :hatsoff:
The Germans know how to manage things properly.
The NHS is the UK has been so badly looked after by successive governments that they weren't prepared for a pandemic, despite the threat of one looming for years. Health care is still free, but it's been a 2nd rate healthcare for years now.
The NHS budget gets reduced all the time, doctors and nurses are overworked, PPE isn't available, waiting lists are manipulated because the government puts pressure on hospitals to reduce numbers or face being rated poorly. It's a shitshow.
The way it's been installed into the Brits that it's 'Our NHS' because the taxpayer funds it, means that anything that threatens it's existence is used to spread panic and makes people do what Boris tells them. People forget that it was Boris and the halfwits who came before him who got the NHS into this mess in the first place.

I was picked to take part in a COVID-19 Antibody medical research test that Imperial College London are currently running.
The aim is to find out if COVID antibodies are the longterm type that the body remembers or the type that get forgotten after a few months. Early research was leaning towards the short term type.

The research was done with lockdown restrictions in mind, so everything I needed was sent to me to carry out the test at home, including analyzing the results and sending them back online.

It was a finger prick test, I had trouble getting a good ammount of blood (I have vibration white finger and had this issue getting blood before). I managed to cover the part of the well indicated with just enough blood, but it didn't seem like a lot to me.

The results showed that I have neither long term or short term antibodies.
IMG_0041a - Copy.jpg
That means either:
  • A) I've never had COVID (I was displaying symptoms for 2 wks about 6 months ago)
  • B) I've had it but no longer have antibodies (short term ones have now gone)
  • C) The antibodies are there but the test didn't have sufficient blood to detect them
I'm a bit dissapointed cos I'd like to know for sure if I've had it or not. Old ailments have returned that I was hoping the test might shed some light on. Tennis elbow, ringworm (fungal infection on the skin) that an ex passed on to me over 10 years ago has returned in exactly the same spot (no not there, on my chest). If it really targets existing and/or past infections and joint problems, that would explain some of it.

Anyway, I found it interesting. They asked too keep my details in case of future research.

health care in america is all about money. not quality of life,in the scheme of things. how much money can be made. and its mainly big pharma. now because of covid, its the hospitals making money. thats why EVERY death is considered covid. even when it isnt. its pathetic.

The test above looks almost like the drug test my doc had. Worked with lines on a paper stripe that was dipped in pee for some seconds before put into the device.

The NHS has never had so much money. It's not free, I see it getting paid for every week out my wage packet. Labour put them in a worse position with the halfwit rental schemes of the hospitals in order to keep costs down that Boris and the Tories. PPE is available it's ridiculous to say that it isn't. There were stories of them struggling to get the correct gear at first but really, if my work on a building site can provide masks quicker than they can toilets I'm pretty sure hospitals aren't struggling for ppe any more.
I dunno what it is about the NHS that people love so much and I don't know what it is that makes me feel like they wanna see me again everytime I need to go there. If I could take my 70quid a week National Insurance and spend it on a Bupa I would

By free I mean it's state run, not private, you can get medical aid and not be billed.
I can only speak from personal experience and I think it's pretty crap for the amount of money I must have paid in tax over the last 25 years.
I had to have my thumb fixed after it dislocated, and the nurse was too squeamish to do it hard enough and it kept popping back out. She sent me home with a stretch bandage and it was still dislocated. 4 weeks later I saw a doctor who said I should be in plaster and he relocated the thumb.
Thank fuck for the nitrous oxide, it seemed quite funny at the time.

ive heard that euro care is a nightmare as far as wait times go. one can sit for hours in the waiting room of the er before being saught out. or wait weeks to be seen for something thats important. how accurate is that?

“We were never part of the Warp Speed,” Kathrin Jansen, a senior vice president and the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer, told reporters. “We have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

Dr. Johnny Fever

aka Bill Murray
I’ve had a number of experiences with Alberta Health Services that have ranged from fantastic to abysmal but it’s largely been positive.

In no particular order:
-Duodenal ulcer, in and out in 24 hours, treated quite well
-serious motorcycle accident, spent just under a 3 months in hospital with multiple surgeries and lots of physio, over all very good treatment and outcomes
-assorted shoulder, arm, rib, leg breaks due to skiing, football and general dumbfuckery again good treatment and outcomes
-something very serious and life threatening but won’t go into the details here, spent 6 months in hospital Including multiple icu stays and another 6 months community rehab. Final outcome was good but the treatment in some of the units was abysmal with incompetent and dangerous staff, management who shouldn’t be running a banana stand let alone a medical unit with complex needs. This was the only time I filed an claim against the provider.
-most recent stay because of this covid fuckery. So far mostly good, just going on longer than anyone expected

What is Euro care, please? Not heard about that in Germany. A new kind of health insurance?
My insurance at the moment is called `Technicians Insurance' and there are many others, almost every branch of work has its own insurance.
Because I've worked on my own most of the time years ago I had to go private; they're better in this case. In terms of costs and you got paybacks if you didn't need a doc for a year.
Full waiting rooms are a sign of bad time management of the docs office or you're living in a poor neighbourhood. And I've never waited for hours, maximal a half one.
Seeing a specialist can last longer; that's right. I got an appointment to a heart doctor in 6 weeks first. Even as an 'urgent' case. Survived though. ;)
At least that's my limited experience and it's been quite ok all the time with the doctors. Even in my worst junkie times. Worst doctor I ever had was an Arab in a 'madhouse' I was for a try to detox. No, thanks and I was gone the other day before someone got his face smashed in.
But I don't know how it is in other countries like France, Italy, Hungary, etc. Because you said Euro.

Victoria in Oz is getting a second epidemic, that is D.O.A's state. New South Wales is increasing too. Most of our cases have come from Mexicans(that is what NSW call Victorians cause they are south of the border) coming north for the winter...Qld has a few new cases, and they are from Victorian Sources as well...
Victoria=629 new cases and 8 new deaths...
what's oz?
