A PLANE belonging to heavy metal legends Iron Maiden has crashed on the runway.

STRANDED: The band said they hoped to find a way to get to their next show
The craft, dubbed Ed Force One, collided with a truck at an airport in Santiago, Chile.
Pictures from the scene reveal the engine casing peeling away and fuel soaking the ground after the collision.

Two people are in hospital with injuries after the crash, which reportedly caused severe damage to the engine.

“The initial report is that the engines have suffered large damage”

Iron Maiden are currently touring South America and addressed the incident in a post on Facebook.

The statement described how the plane was tethered to a tow truck and refuelling at the time.

“On moving the steering pin that is part of the mechanism that connects the ground tug to the aircraft seemingly fell out,” it said.

“On making a turn the aircraft had no steering and collided with the ground tug badly damaging the undercarriage and two of the aircraft’s engines.

RUINED: The engine reportedly sustained large amounts of damage

Two tug operators injured in the incident are being treated in hospital.
“We hope of course that they make a full and speedy recovery and we will be closely monitoring their progress,” a band statement said.

“The flight engineers are on site and evaluating the damage, but their initial report is that the engines have suffered large damage.

“[They] will require an extended period of maintenance and possibly two new engines.”

Iron Maiden, whose plane is named after their band mascot, were due to fly to Cordoba, Argentina, for a concert.

The group said they were making contingency plans to ensure the group got to the show tomorrow.

“Although this is tragic for our beautiful plane we do not expect this to affect our concert schedule,” the band said.

“And we hope to find a new Ed Force One to continue this adventure with us in the near future. We will keep everyone updated when we know more.”

Equal Hater

Unbannable by decree!
My brother was at the concert yesterday. He is a huge Maiden fan and has traveled pretty much all over the world to see them. He was telling me the show was great as usual, but he was disappointed with the repeated misses from pretty much everyone, which is uncommon. He also mentioned the volume being excessively loud to the point it was hard to really hear them in detail. He says he wonders if that was purposely done to hide the mistakes...
