COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- It's time to go to jail for some South Carolina teens - well, for at least one night.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he hopes a program that includes a one-night jail stay will help straighten out some kids who might be headed down the wrong path.
The program is an offshoot of last summer's Crossroads program, in which students with behavior problems toured the county jail and viewed a presentation by the coroner's office.
With the new program called READY - Richland County, Educating, And Deterring, Youth - participants will stay overnight in a cell at the county courthouse and talk with the sheriff's gang unit.
The first of four READY sessions for boys ages 13 to 17 begins Friday.
The four sessions for girls begin June 12.
