You take apart a mortar shell and throw the sky-bursting bit, specifically the kind called "sky salutes", as a firecracker. Were you never a teenager?

Then you have even less of an excuse of how not to make a firecracker. For gun owners you just put a handful of bullets in a campfire and play chicken with your friends to see who runs away and who stays sitting around it.

Black powder: 75% saltpeter, 10% sulfur, and 15% charcoal
Metal tube with screw-on end caps. Drill a small hole in one end cap for the fuse.

Theres an aftermath video on Instagram I'm not going to link to (search firecracker in truck window) that shows the truck absolutely wrecked, for sure totaled, but no blood inside at all.
