Austin shooting on West 6th Street occurred early Sunday, March 1, 2026, outside Buford’s bar in downtown Austin. The suspect, a man from a Muslim-Occupied African country (Seoul) drove a large SUV, circled the block multiple times before stopping, turning on hazard lights, and firing a pistol from the window at patrons on the patio and in front of the bar. He then parked on Wood Street, exited the vehicle, and began walking east on Sixth Street with an assault rifle, shooting at pedestrians. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that three people died, including the suspect, who was shot and killed by officers at an intersection. Fourteen others were injured, with three in critical condition.
The suspect wore a "Property of Allah" shirt and had multiple Iranian propaganda pieces including the Iranian flag in his vehicle.
The FBI has joined the investigation, citing "potential nexus to terrorism" based on preliminary evidence found on the suspect and in his vehicle. The incident unfolded on one of Austin’s busiest nightlife streets, but first responders, including police and EMS, arrived within 57 seconds, which officials say likely saved lives.
