A man who failed to break into several cars thought he finally hit the jackpot when he came across one that was left unlocked — only to find police officers seated inside.

Stephen Titland, 49, had been caught on surveillance camera trying to break into seven vehicles parked along a street in Trinity Oaks, Fla., last Tuesday, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

Pressed for luck, Titland tried again the next day in New Port Richey until he found one that had been left unlocked.

Unbeknownst to him, deputies with the Strategic Targeted Area Response unit — tasked with busting burglars — were sitting inside the unmarked patrol car.

Titland was arrested shortly after and identified as the suspect in the attempted burglaries the night before.

Titland, who remains jailed on $45,150 bond, now faces charges of attempted burglary, loitering and prowling, auto burglary and violating his probation after a previous burglary conviction.
