A Little Canada woman was arrested after deputies found her husband bleeding and holding his intestines in a parking lot outside their apartment New Year’s Day, authorities say.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene on the 400 block of Labore Road after the man called 911 to report that his wife, Denea Chiquita Griffo, had stabbed him with a kitchen knife following an argument, according to the criminal complaint filed against her Wednesday in Ramsey County District Court.

He was taken to Regions Hospital, where doctors determined that a “significant” portion of the 35-year-old’s small intestine had protruded through a stab wound to his abdomen, court records say.
The man told deputies that his wife was upset with him for not answering his phone Jan. 1 and accused him of cheating on her when he returned to their Little Canada home around 11 that evening, the complaint said.
After hitting him in the head, Griffo grabbed a knife and twice swung it at this throat before piercing his stomach with it, according to his account detailed in court documents.
During her interview with investigators, Griffo, 39, told deputies that she was mad at her husband for ignoring her multiple attempts to reach him that night and that a physical altercation ensued when he finally returned home, the complaint said.
After her husband hit her in the face, she said she blacked out and must have stabbed him, though she said she didn’t remembering doing so, according to authorities.
Deputies found her inside the couple’s Little Canada home a little after 11:30 p.m., along with bloodied floors, walls and the kitchen knife.
When they asked her about what appeared to be blood on her white shirt, Griffo reportedly said the stains had been caused by Doritos she ate earlier in the evening to sooth her upset stomach, the complaint said.
Griffo is charged with one count of first-degree assault resulting in great bodily harm in the case.
She was convicted in May 2016 of disorderly conduct after hitting her husband and repeatedly striking him with a belt, court records say.
She made her first appearance on the latest charges Wednesday.
No attorney was listed for Griffo in court records.
