Marcus Licinius Crassus was a Roman general and politician who played a key role in the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He is often called "the richest man in Rome. When Crassus mounted a horse to ride to the Parthian camp for a peace negotiation, his junior officer Octavius suspected a Parthian trap and poured molten gold into his mouth, as a symbol of his thirst for wealth.

If it’s not just a myth, then blinding by light would be fucking brutal
having had arc eye from welding with a cheap replacement welding lens i can imagine the pain from being forced to watch the arc with no protection at all.
it feels like your eyes are covered in sand and even dim light hurts, eyes constantly watering which lasted around a week

ARSELING
Impaling by the Osman specialists in the 18th century. They had a technique to keep the convicted alive as long as possible.

But now it's good.. I've told that at least 3 times now.

I grew up as a little carny child, as that was our means of a living. My dad was a genius, making so much money on so many different venues...I digress. I could go, unlimited on any ride or any exhibit by saying, " I'm with it". Once, there was a torture exhibit, and saying, "With it " just waltzed right on on. I was frickin enchanted! I will never forget it. It was all staged to show the way true torture was actually done. Yes, they had the man with both arms tied to two horses going in different direction, thus ripping off one arm. They had the man buried, his whole body but his head, then they poured syrup on his head so the ants would slowly devour him. Then, there was the spiked cage. As long as the person stood upright, he was fine. Sharp spikes everywhere though. They just left him in there forever. If he ever got tired, and you know he would, there was a sharp spike everywhere. Slow, tired death there...there was the stretching wheel, I mean...on and on and on... I have never forgotten it.

Saw It Coming
Out of all the torture practices I think Scaphism was the craziest. Imagine walking in on a Scaphism victim-laden swamp in modern times, like some kind of horror movie.

The King Of The Underground
I've always found that execution methods these days are so much more tame than they once were a great many years ago. The middle ages were especially ripe with gruesome creativity that rivals much of the more mundane methods I see now. (Mundane in my eyes, at least.)

I've looked into a lot of older methods, though only really from the 16th -18th century and one that I recall being intrigued by included nailing an individual's intestines to a tree and somehow forcing them to run around the tree until they collapse and bleed to death. I can't recall what it was called... I'm not very good at names.

But nonetheless, I'm interested to know what methods anyone else finds especially brutal, interesting, strange, or even ones that they personally find disturbing?
You know Dracula? He was actually based off of a victorian murderer in Spain name Dracula (Pronounced Drack-quue-lah). His murder methods consisted of,

Pulling intestines out from a victims ass holes then using them to hang said victim from the ceiling until they die.

Gauging out a victims eyes then holding their face over a bowl so they may bleed out and he would drink the blood.

And slowly stabbing his victims in their body including inappropriate areas.

His favorite method of torcher, however, was stabbing his victims with a wooden spear to tear through the skin, it would decay into the body before the person had completely died and it would add splinters for extra pain. He would leave these people to be pain and pass away slowly.

The good old middle ages:

Burned alive
Burned alive is the method of execution used in the Witch Hunt era

Starvation

Crucifixion

Iron bull
The convict was locked in an iron bull and then set on fire underneath. Due to its special design, the cry of the victims resembled the roar of a bull.

The Chinese Bell
It can also be inferred from the name of the Chinese bell that it was a form of punishment used in China. The convict was planted in a bell and then began to strike the bell with a hammer. The victim became deaf, suffered various nervous system damage, bit his tongue, or turned against himself. If the convict was still alive after the sentence, he was beheaded.

Stoning
At stoning, the convict was thrown to death with fists of stone, making sure the convict survived as long as possible. Stoning is a very painful death that can last for hours. It is still used in some countries today

Pulled into a stake
When pulled into a stake, a sharpened 2.5-3 meter skewer and stalk was placed in the convict's rectum (initially by hand, later with the help of animals) and then carefully maneuvered past the spine without injuring any vital organs. To the convict, drawn into a stake by a executioner with adequate anatomical knowledge, the stake left his mouth. The stake, of course, shattered the victim's intestines, causing unimaginable torment, but death only occasionally occurred within long hours or days. In more severe cases, a crossbar was placed under the stake set up, which prevented the victim from slipping down the stake and thus dying immediately. The cause of death in this case was shock to the body, continuous blood loss, or sepsis.

Brake into a wheel
The person sentenced to break into a wheel was fastened to stakes on the ground, wooden brakes were placed under his joints, and then most of his body was crushed with a heavy cast iron wheel. Most of the time it started with the limbs, the shock usually made the victim unconscious. The executioner tried to push the boundaries of unconsciousness as far as possible. After the execution was carried out, the body was tied to the wheel and pulled high.

Discharged in boiling oil
When discharged in oil, the death sentence was dropped into hot oil on a rope and pulled out only after he died. Death usually occurred within a few minutes.

Skinning
Skinning is arguably one of the most cruel methods of execution, as there are plenty of sensory nerves in human skin. When skinning, the skin was usually cut off only from the back with a knife or other sharp object, not from the whole body. In many cases, the skin was simply cut off and then peeled by hand from the convict, who usually died of the shock of removing the skin or suffered some kind of infection. For more severe punishment, the process was carried out slowly, causing even more suffering to the victim.

Quartering
All four limbs of the man sentenced to quartering were cut off, and if he was still alive after that, the executioner also struck his head. The convict was often gutted in front of him. A special form of quartering was quartering by horses. The hands and feet of the doomed to death were fastened to four horses, and then the horses were driven in opposite directions. The victim's limbs were torn off, and death came in a matter of moments.

The Saw
Sentenced to death by a saw, the executioners were hung upside down on a swing-like structure or beam, and then, with a huge saw, they began to cut his body in half just between his legs. Due to the upside-down dependence, the blood supply to the brain remained intact for a long time, so it occurred that the convict was still conscious even when the saw was already at chest height.

Pendulum
The pendulum was mostly used on people convicted of heresy. The discarded heretics were placed on their backs, tied to a bench, and the pendulum above them was started. The pendulum was a rigidly fixed, razor-sharp ax that descended to the convict with a pendulum motion. The ax slowly, gradually cut off the skin of the neck, the trachea, the carotid arteries, and finally the head was detached from the body.

I want to see an old school dismemberment by quartering all limbs tied to horses (trucks would suffice) running in opposite directions. Yank 'em all off at one time. Has to be painful as fuck.👍🐴
