In 2000 Moen's attorney requested his case be re-examined, the sentence was overturned based on Police misconduct, a lack of any concrete evidence and he was aquitted for the murders in 2004 and in 2005 another man confessed to the murders on his deathbed, Fritz Moen died in 2007, 67 years old.

The unsolved murder of Edvard Rustad - January 1934

The Rustad murder is a term used to describe the killing of wholesaler Edward Rustad in January 1934, which is considered one of the major unsolved criminal cases in Norwegian criminal history.
It received much media attention at the time and many years after, the case is often mentioned by crime reporters when unsolved murder cases are mentioned.

ob3fuGz.jpg

Edvard Rustad was a wholesaler from Oslo, though in reality he was more of a scrap dealer, through his work it's suspected he had made connections in the black market circles in Oslo, according to witnesses who saw Rustad before his disappearance, he had recieved a phone call and had then told his employees that he had to take a ride out of town.

GYhyGBV.jpg

It's believed that Rustad was killed somewhere on the outskirts of Oslo, then the perpetrator(s) drove to Grev Wedels Plass and left the car and body there, witnesses who claimed they saw the driver described a harsh looking man with sharp features and staring eyes.

jjVhgav.jpg

Rustad was shoot four times in the back of the head with a small caliber pistol

CnnqbnF.jpg

Bullets found on the scene was of the type "Western 25 Auto", which had not been available in Europe since the 1920's, which led some people to believe that the killer could have been an American. The Oslo Police chief contacted the FBI to see if they could help with this sort of case, their answer stated it was obvious that "Mr Rustad had been taken for a ride"

To this day there have been made no public list of suspects and there is no evidence linking anyone to the crime, now 81 years later the crime is still unsolved.

Isdalskvinnen(The Isdal woman)
z3JdW9a.jpg

29. November, 1970 in Isdal outside Bergen, the nude and partially charred remains of a woman was discovered by a father and his two daughters who were hiking in the area, the body was found in a part of the valley called Dødsdalen(Death valley) and next to the body there was a fireplace with burnt-out passports, the offical police report concluded that she had commited suicide, but this conclusion remains very controversial, the autopsy revealed that she had been hit with force in the throat and that she had digested a lot of sleeping pills before death.
The police managed to trace the women to two suitcases left at the train station in Bergen, but anything that might have helped identify the women had been carefully removed including fingerprints and cloth labels, there was also a prescription lotion but the name of the doctor had been removed, in one of the suitcases they also found a coded diary, which was believed to pinpoint each location the woman had visited.
The police made a phantom drawing based on witness descriptions of the woman, she was described as being in her 30's or early 40's, about 1'64 tall, with small eyes and a beautiful face.
The police discovered that she had travelled through Norway and Europe in disguise under several different aliases using false passports, witnesses also said she was fluent in many languages including German, French, English and Dutch. An Italian photograper came forward and told the Police during questioning that he had dined with the woman, who had told him that she was a tourist from Johannesburg, South Africa. The questioning of the Italian did not lead to revealing the identity of the woman and the Police were without any further leads, but there were many speculations and theories, she had nine fake passports and therfore many believed that she might have been a spy.
One theory is that she was an Israeli spy that had defected and was liquidated by her own, while another theory is that she was working for the KGB and was found out and killed by the Norwegian PST(Police security service) who then covered up the killing, many people believe the police have deliberately led the case astray and the official conclusion that she was a check swindler from South America that commited suicide and fell into the fire was rediculed by many private investigators. There have been written many books about the Isdal woman both fact and fiction, but her true identity still remains a mystery.

"Jennifer Fergate" - The woman that did not exist
gdxHKh6.jpg

3. june 1995, at 8:00pm Police were called to Hotel Plaza in Oslo after reports of gunfire, in room 2805 they found the body of a dead woman with a 9 mm Browning-pistol in her hand, the Police found no pass or anything that could ID the woman, the woman had booked herself into the hotel as Jennifer Fergate with a false phone number and adress in Brussel, Belgium, but there were no records of a woman named Jennifer Fergate matching her description in Belgium. The case was sent to Interpol who could not find any match either.
There were no witnesses who had seen anyone entering or leaving the room a the time of the shooting so Police investigators believed that she most likely had commited suicide, but why would a Belgian woman travel to Norway under a fake alias, carefully remove any evidence of her own existence and then kill herself.
Any hope of getting an ID on her became even more difficult when the little evidence that existed in the case (a gold ring, an earring and a watch) was "lost" by the Police.

The Hadeland murders

The Hadeland murders took place on 22 February 1981 when two men were killed on a bridge between Avalsjøen and Leirsjøen in Lunner, Hadeland.
The perpetrators were Johnny Olsen, John Charles Hoff and Espen Lund. They were all members of the Neo-Nazi group 'Norges Germanske Arme'(Norway's Germanic Army). Two of the perpetrators had military backgrounds, Hoff had been a member of the Home Guard, while Lund had been a sergeant in the Army. The five men had previously stolen weapons from a warehouse belonging to the Home Guard. The two victims wanted to be paid for the theft and thus fell out of favor with Lund, who also feared that they would snitch to the police. Lund therefore gave the order to have the two men killed.
Lund and his conspirators knew, however, that one of the two had already cracked under questioning by the police and that the police were present in the area with plans to apprehend them. When they were crossing the bride Olsen shot the two victims in the back with an MP40 machine gun. While trying to escape they exchanged gunfire with the police who had set up road blocks and were in pursuit, the car chase ended when their car went off the road and got stuck in the snow. Olsen and Lund was sentenced to 18 years in prison and after 12 years behind bars, they were released on probation in 1993. Hoff was sentenced to 12 years for the double murder and served 7 years.
