social o's writings

social outcast

karma can be expected
Was going to post this in a "sappy love poems" thread but I looked and didn't find one. I can post gazillions of stuff here but firstly this is something I wrote for a special someone yesterday..

i understand

you came into my life
as a wayward leaf
blown from a branch.
and ever so gently
landed on my lap.
i picked up this leaf
and took the time
to examine its subtle
warm color.
the intricate system
of veins that it was
comprised of.
i held said leaf, rich color
in my hand
for a long while
i understand.

the book i was reading,
before closing its pages,
i set this leaf inside it
and sat for awhile more.
now comforted
with my surroundings
the appreciation
of nature, my focus.
time stood still
and i felt complete.
a simple occurrence
of a leaf fluttering aloft
now nestled with me,
i will preserve my token
granted on a day
spent idling my time
i understand.

when i arrived home,
before setting my book
on the shelf,
i sat myself down
and thumbed through,
the pages rustling,
the only apparent sound.
and in the middle
of this novel i find
this leaf that garnered
my attention in the park.
each small point
and smooth edges
are not lost to my eyes.
i hold in my hands
a very small part
of the Universe's
vast complexities.
you see, this is not
just a leaf to me
but a fortune to
behold and treasure
i understand.

i place this glorious leaf
back between the pages,
set it away securely
and in a few patient days
will, just as calculated,
place this leaf into
a small glass frame.
once the weight of
being pressed together
has forever suspended
its immaculate splendor,
for time immortal,
and set it on display
upon the wall
over my writing desk.
for when this leaf
landed so gracefully
upon my lap
i was, at that moment,
drawn into its creation
i understand.

and when time passes
and i find solace
at this desk.
and quiet contemplation
is at hand,
this leaf will be there.
why honor such a leaf
amongst infinite
other leaves in life?
rather than brush it
aside and continue
reading my book,
i took the time
to truly appreciate
an everyday occurence
and realize the cosmos
offered an opportunity
to focus my attention
to its true essence
i was not a lone passerby
sitting on a park bench
no, i was bestowed
an gift from overhead
and this leaf's presence
has made me humble
i understand.

That's more profound than what I posted here mate! A beautifully written prose/ode, and I understood it's subtleties and complexities on the first read. I read it three times! If you get enough to fill a book, PUBLISH!!!!:tu:
And ignore the idiots!

Sure you did. :Skeptical:
OK smart ass. How many books and short stories have YOU written? I'm up to my 4th novel, and my 30th short story! I read on average 1-2 books a week and I have a diploma in comprehensive writing! I feel pretty qualified to cast an opinion about somebody's work. If I hadn't have liked it, or got it, I would have said nothing. I know what effort it takes to write something down when it comes from the heart, and SO's words were like bricks laid by an quality craftsman.
Here's a poem for you...

Butter some bread,
with your boogers,
and bang it up your bumhole,
Backwards!
Nearly a Haiku

My gift to you, a Nightmare of terror
I thought it was beautiful. I have a hard time getting the stuff out of my head and onto the paper that I gave up years ago. I do love to read something that makes me cry and this one did! I know, I am just a big ol smooshy, but a girl wants to know that out of the millions of leaves on the ground, you chould be chosen to be the one leaf that is noticed above all others. Nicely done
