At the ground-level entrance of the Nina Hotel, a taxi driver reportedly lost control and mounted the pavement, crashing into a 35-year-old male tourist from the Philippines who was pulling his suitcase outside the hotel. He suffered severe injuries to both legs and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, but was later confirmed dead.
The taxi driver, surnamed Wong, is believed to be around 80 years old. He reportedly felt dizzy and lost control while attempting to turn into the taxi stand. After the incident, Wong complained of chest pains, and had sustained injuries to his head and hand. He was taken to hospital, but has been arrested.
The Filipino tourist was in Hong Kong to visit friends, and was leaving the hotel in preparation to go back home when he died.
