No they did not. That's all misinformation. None of that was ever proven to be true. It was a false story ran by the Mercury News. The CIA never encouraged the sale of cocaine.Yep, and in the 1980's the Reagan administration oversaw the smuggling of large shipments of cocaine from South America, specifically Nicaragua, to American inner cities where CIA agents showed members of the Black communities how to transform cocaine into crack. They then turned a blind eye to the crack epidemic as it destroyed those communities.
The anti-communist forces in Nicaragua and Panama then used the money from the illegal drug sales to finance military action to prevent communist forces from gaining a foothold in their territories. In 1989 when it became apparent that Communism and the Soviet Union was teetering on collapse the US government under former Regan vice President George H. W. Bush, now President, lead an invasion of Panama to remove President Manuel Noriega from power because he refused to stop the drug smuggling that the CIA had originally encouraged.
The US government could not stop the crack epidemic that they had started nor prevent it from spreading out of the inner cities and into the white community and so attempted to end it through legislation- the "War on Drugs" mandating prison terms of up to 25 year minimum sentences for crack-related crimes (as simple as mere possession) knowing blacks were the most likely users of crack while whites preferred regular cocaine- which no mandatory minimum sentences for possession were instituted.
Crack was discovered by some chemists at UC-Berkeley. One of the chemist was friends with Ricky Donnell Ross, who was a cocaine dealer, and told him how to do it.(But the chemist had also told other people and shown them how to do it.) So in order to increase profits he started converting the coke into crack and selling it to gang leaders.
When he started selling too much to make it by himself, he recruited people from the gangs to help. They started also doing it on the side and taught others. That's how it spread. Not by the CIA.
There was also no proof that the two Nicaraguan drug dealers,Blandon and Meneses had given millions of dollars to the Contra party and could confirm only that Blandon had given about $50,000.
There were 1500 missiles sold to Iran for 32 million dollars and the release of 3 American prisoners. 18 million was sent to the Contras in order to buy weapons. Reagan's cabinet later admitted that Reagan was confused much of the time about the ongoing deals to Iran due to his failing health.Haha, I love Regan, but it gets even worse than illegal drug shipments. There were also illegal gun shipments too. It was called the Iran–Contra Affair. Bassically Reagan facilitated the sale of huge quantities of arms to Iran (under the Ayatollah) and then sent the money raised to South American anti-communist forces (the Contras) who then used those funds to continue their war. You may ask why Reagan would make deals with our enemies in Iran, well it turned out the Ayatollah hated communists too, as the communists were a threat to Islam, so Ayatollah was buddy buddy behind closed doors with Reagan knowing he would keep the commies at bay.
