Severed head, foot discovered near Credit River west of Toronto

Canada News | Daily Brew – 18 hours ago

A day after a severed foot was found in a Mississauga, Ontario park, police have now confirmed the grisly discovery of a human head in the Credit River, about 1 km from the initial discovery at Hewick Meadows Park.

Peel Regional Police investigators found the head late Thursday morning said acting Insp. Randy Cowan at a news conference.

Cowan said he couldn't specify exactly where the head was found "because we're still there."

He could not confirm if the foot and head belonged to the same person.

The head does not appear to be that of a child based on a preliminary examination, he said.

"Without a cause of death we can't call it homicide, but certainly foul play — there's definitely something amiss," said Cowan.

A group of people were hiking in the park near Eglinton Avenue West and Mississauga Road Wednesday and discovered what appeared to be a foot in the shallows of the Credit River that runs through the park, said Cowan.

A coroner later confirmed it is a human foot that had been severed from the ankle down.

Police are currently running tests on the foot and will run tests on the head to help arrive at an identification.

The presence of yellow nail polish has led police to suspect the foot belonged to a woman. Police suspect the foot was severed in the last few weeks.

Police haven’t been able to determine if the body parts washed down the river, which flows southwards towards Lake Ontario, or if they'd been placed there.

Search crews, including divers, canine units and an OPP helicopter, are combing the area.

awe no pics :(
Sadly, yes, no pics...the cops in Ontario, well all of Canada, are uber stricto on people getting pics of anything dead except for the squirrel that hit the wrong wire on the hydro poles infront of your house or the worms that drowned on the sidewalk when it rains too much.

Severed body parts, unidentified remains: police searches resume

CBC – 1 hour 7 minutes ago

Police in and around Toronto are dealing with a pair of puzzling and troubling mysteries connected to the gruesome discovery of body parts and the possible discovery of human remains.

Police search teams have returned to two different areas where the body parts and the suspected remains were found.

Peel Regional Police were back Monday morning, near the mouth of the Credit River in south Mississauga, where they discovered a severed foot, a head and two hands. At the same time, Toronto police are searching a portion of West Highland Creek in the city's east end where remains have been found — though it has not been confirmed they are human.

So far police are not making any connection between the discoveries.

A flesh-like substance was found in Scarborough over the weekend. One discovery was made on Saturday, the other on Sunday.

Toronto Police Const. Wendy Drummond told CBC News that a bag found Sunday was believed to have remains inside —though she could not say if they are human. According to Drummond, police will wait until they hear authoritatively from the Ontario Coroner's office.

In Mississauga, just west of Toronto, police are still trying to discover the identity of the victim — or victims — whose body parts have been recovered from the water.

A right foot was found by hikers in Hewick Meadows Park on Wednesday and police found a severed head a day later in the Credit River.

On Friday, two hands were found in the same river, which flows through the park, into Lake Ontario.

Peel Regional Police have yet to confirm the body parts are from one person.

Investigators believe the remains are female because the foot had yellow painted toenails.

Const. George Tudos said Sunday the ground search was being aided by cadaver dogs and a dive team.

They're hopeful of finding evidence, or the remaining body parts, but Tudos admits the search would take at least a few more days to complete.

Toronto police contacted Peel police Saturday to notify them of the find, but it was not known if the two discoveries could be linked.

Police identify remains of woman found
scattered in Toronto-area waterways

By Steve Mertl | Daily Brew – 14 hours ago

Police have identified the remains of a woman whose body was chopped up and scattered through the suburban Toronto area.

Peel Regional Police say the body parts belong to Guang Hua Liu, a 41-year-old single mother from Scarborough, Ont., last seen alive on Aug. 10, CBC News reported Tuesday.

Insp. George Koekkoek told a news conference Liu owned a now-defunct spa in Scarborough, adding police have executed search warrants in their investigation, including at a Scarborough motel.

"We are working on suspect information," he said.

It's the second time this year Canadians have been gripped by news about a sensational murder case involving scattered body parts.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, originally from Scarborough, is charged with first-degree murder in the death and dismemberment of Chinese student Lin Jun in Montreal last May. Police say the discovery of Liu's body is not related to the Magnotta case.

Magnotta, who has pleaded not guilty, is alleged to have killed Lin in Magnotta's apartment and cut up the corpse — the whole thing allegedly recorded on video that turned up on the web.

Police allege Magnotta then mailed some of Lin's body parts to the Conservative party's national headquarters in Ottawa and schools in Vancouver. Lin's torso was discovered in a suitcase among trash outside Magnotta's apartment building, and his head was found in a Montreal park.

And two decades ago, two of Canada's most notorious killers tried to dispose of one of their victims through dismemberment.

Paul Bernardo and his fiancee Karla Homolka kidnapped 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy on June 15, 1991, two weeks before their wedding.

The teen was raped repeatedly over several days, then murdered, her body cut up and encased in cement blocks that were dumped into a lake near St. Catharines, Ont. The remains were discovered two weeks later.

The discovery last week of a woman's head, foot and two hands in the Credit River, which flows through suburban Mississauga, sparked a massive search for other parts.

Coincidentally, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Conservative supporters had been picnicking in a park along the river amid tight security last week, unaware their scenic venue would be scoured for body parts just days later.

The search led to an arm, two calves and a thigh being discovered around West Highland Creek, in Scarborough, near where Liu lived in a townhouse, the Toronto Star said.

Star reporter Dale Brazao stumbled on a plastic bag of remains in the creek when he stopped to take a photo. He spotted the bag at his feet and poked a small hole in it.

"What I saw made me sick," Brazao wrote. "I saw bone, I saw skin, and I saw fatty tissue. The smell was worse."

WONDER WHAT SHE DID TO BECOME SWISS CHEESE ????
As the news mentioned, she was the owner of a spa in Scarorough. To us here, that doesn't mean green goo and cucumbers on the eyes...it usually means that she was running a pull & tug/semi brothel. Police are looking into her business since sex of often times involved.

Lols ya, a brothel of sorts - as Ontario law permits; that or a few more $20's. I doubt there'll be a vid. The cops are checking a hotel and some store as the possible crime scene.

But this one is odd because her last name was Lui and Luka's buddy's name was Lin and all were from Scarborough.
