MONETA, Va. – A reporter and photographer from a local news station in Roanoke were shot and killed during a live news interview on Wednesday morning.

The shooting occurred at Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, Virginia. WDBJ confirmed the deaths on Wednesday.

During a live interview at Bridgewater Plaza, approximately eight gunshots are heard as a reporter is seen interviewing someone on-screen. The camera then drops to the ground and the broadcast cuts back to the anchor desk.

The video captures an image of the what’s believed to be the suspected shooter before it cuts away. WDBJ tweeted out that they are trying to figure out what happened and that law enforcement is on scene.

Authorities from Bedford County, Franklin County and Virginia State Police have responded.

Virignia Gov. Terry McAuliffe told WTOP-FM in Washington that authorities believe the shooter was a "disgruntled employee" and that the shooting was "not a case of terrorism."

McAuliffe said authorities were "in pursuit" of the suspect.

Video shows Parker interviewing a woman about tourism on Bridgewater Plaza in Franklin County. She was smiling when suddenly at least eight shots were heard. The camera drops to the ground and captures what appears to be a fleeting image of the shooter. The person is wearing black pants and a blue top and appears to be holding a handgun. Parker can be heard screaming.

The station then switches back to a shot of an anchor back at the station, who has a shocked expression on her face.

Parker was interviewing Vicki Gardner, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Roanoke Times newspaper reports.

Barb Nocera, an official with the chamber, told the newspaper that Gardner was shot in the back and was in surgery.

Schools in Franklin County and neighboring Bedford County were placed on lockdown following the shooting, according to messages posted to the school districts' Facebook pages.

In a tweet, the station said: "We love you, Alison and Adam."

The man suspected of killing two television journalists in Virginia filmed the shootings, which were briefly posted Wednesday on Twitter.

Authorities have identified the suspect in the killings of reporter Allison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, as Vester Lee Flanagan, a former employee of the television station.

He identified himself on air as Bryce Williams.

A manhunt for the suspect ended shortly before noon with Williams taking his own life, according to multiple local reports.
