That's because he was drunk and on the rear lines that Wagner fighters are moving back to. He was part of the 72nd and it seems that was the unit that decided to place a bunch of mines and plastic explosives along the retreat route that Wagner would be using to get to the rear lines...the trail led right to where the 72nd was stationed.
