The exclusive: Beat the devil tattoo. 2015. South Korea.

A reporter thinks he's got a scoop on a serial killer.
Interesting film that is half lighthearted half serious thriller. Starts with reporter getting a tip off that the a serial killer fitting the description is at a run down part of town. When he goes there, he gets a what he thinks is a handwritten note. The station broadcast it as an exclusive. This leads to a pile up of lies for him which is kinda funny. In the 2nd hour is when the real killer contacts him at it then is up to him to try to stop what he is trying to do.
Very well plotted film with standard cinematography. It did become slightly dull near the end of the first hour but the tone changed slightly enough for the film to pick up again. Slightly lost me due to the layered plot but still entertaining.

Finch 4/10 A big disappointment from Tom Hanks it’s after some kind of apocalypse and Finch is slowly dying from radiation poisoning so he builds a robot to care for his little dog after he dies, the dog is the best thing in the movie the robot the biggest disappointment there’s a huge radioactive storm on the way so they have to get out of Dodge real quick so it’s a road movie where just about nothing happens. Tom suits up and he and the robot go out to find supplies they break into an old cinema for food and he finds some pop corn takes the robot outside and puts some corn on a hub cap where it pops because of the radiation heat and freaks the robot a bit. They go back to the truck and drive on ? eh ? They see a cars lights on the road so we’re going to get some action yay the robot pushes the truck under a bridge and the car drives away ? Avoid this one it’s shit.

Danton. 1983. France.
8/10
Political drama dealing with the fallout of the revolution.
Georges Danton along Maximilien Robespierre were front and center in the inital 'revolution' in France. After they overthrew the monarchy they became emenies of each other. The film focuses on the way the new republic deals with Danton and his followers.
It shows mainly Robespierre and his commitee working out how to frame Danton as a traitor all the while knowing the his own actions will ultimitley lead to his own downfall. The film is slow with the main plot being politics rather that action. Based on a historical account it does a good job of conveying the necessary information to any viewer about the perils of government.
No english subtitles.

Possession. 1981.

A couple separate, but all is not as it seems.
Small cast in a film that really doesn't seem to have a plot, but alot of tension and violence. The woman is intent on leaving but the man can't quite handle it and ends up looking after their son. There are few other characters along the way.
Best described as a psychological thriller/horror. As it progresses it becomes apparent that all is really not well with the woman and she is creating a de facto husband. The violence is gritty but the film as a whole was kinda confusing.

Benedetta. 2021. France.
8/10
A young nun during the time of the plague gets involved with a novice nun and see visions of Christ and has 'stigmata'.
Based on a true story it has a strong religious tone. Well filmed with some interesting scenes that are 'visions' had by the lead character.
Well filmed with good actors, the plot is straight forward with the suspicion of the Benedetta's christ wounds being the main thread. It shows the power the church had over people at the time and the jealousy between the nuns and the authority of the bishop.

I very rarely download cam movies because the quality always sucks but I was eager to see Ghostbusters Afterlife and couldn't find a screener torrent so went with bootleg.

As expected it was often out of focus, there was an annoying casino watermark for much of the movie but I still watched it to completion. A few comments...

I didn't like the main characters being <16 years old. I felt it lost a lot of seriousness and darkness the first movie had. For the adult cast Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd were ok but Coon as the somewhat similar roll as Sigourney Weaver and Rudd as the Rick Moranis character fell flat. The plot was alright but not compelling enough to keep me glued to the screen. I was able to give it only partial attention and still follow along. The cameos from Ackroyd, Hudson and yours truly were alright but honestly felt forced. Likewise was the overly schmaltzy virtual appearance of Harold Ramis. Nice for the shout out but they tried to milk it too much.

What was cool was seeing southern Alberta and Fort MacLeod (a normally dumpy little town south of me) on the big screen.

Once its out on streaming services I'll steal a proper version and watch it again but doubt higher quality will change my opinion that much.
