Yup! I spent a fair bit of time in the bay area (with work mostly Santa Clara, San Jose, etc. and for R&R Sonoma, Napa & south to Monterey/Carmel, SLO) and it was great up until the mid 2000's and the liberals really took over. Aside from some extra dodgy parts of SFO like The Tenderloin or SOMA it was a fun city to wander around and I never felt threatened or at risk. Once they stopped policing the street level crime and what would be considered annoyances like open drug use, shitting in on someone's front step, etc. it sent a message to the criminals that it was fair game to do whatever they want and it ran out of control. When that happens you don't need more liberal fuckery from the likes of Boudin you need someone who'll get this shit under control.

What really struck me the last times I was in the city is how filthy things had got. Ya, you'd always see a little bit of litter but it just seemed much worse.

I was in San Fran in 1983 and rented a moped for hours to get a real feel of the city. I thought it was great. I remember i fell riding down Lombard Street (while braking) because they were watering the flowers on the side and the front wheel slid out from under me in the wetness.
