What is the last thing you handcrafted for yourself?

Somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago, my late father collected and set aside several branches suitable for making into hiking staves, which remained in one of my Mom's storage sheds until today. He'd made a number of hiking staves during the 1990s and very early 2000s. It's very good for unfinished wood to sit around drying in a controlled environment for many years.

I chose this one (which looked like a piece of driftwood this morning) and, today, I sanded it with coarse, medium, and then fine sandpaper; cleaned off the dust by blowing and wiping with a cloth; applied three coats of a mixture of mineral and orange oils, and then three coats of beeswax, allowing time for absorption/drying and buffing after each coat; and I created the grip by doing what's called a "common whipping," which essentially means I tightly wrapped and secured fine twine around the handle.

One of my father's flies that he tied with his own hands is wedged into the crack and wrapped around with the twine.

I just need get the tip of the staff shod, preferably with a brass or copper jacket. I've already gone further than what's shown in the picture and treated and sealed the twine grip, and trimmed off the ends. This picture is from slightly earlier in the process. I should have a final picture (that won't look much different) pretty soon.

What did you make those out of?

I'm in the process of building a new recording studio and need the walls covering in something like this
Pine wood (bass wood is also good for resonance). Used roxul safe and sound 16" and upholstered the framed insulation in speaker grill fabric. Measure your room with the rew software to see what Hz your room mode suffers from, then theres an app to calculate the diffuser needed to treat the nulls.

Thanks it's been a long time since I last set up a recording studio and I had help from a professional last time, this time I'm setting it up in the loft I've already borded the floor I just need to board the ceiling and put a pation wall up, plaster the main brick wall and then sound proof it

I will come back to you for some info in a few weeks if that's okay 👍👍

Simple but beautiful in its effectiveness. Good design is elegantly simple.
True, and made in ~10 min (not including the shitty paintjob) and from scrap wood. I did glue & screw the single joint and put little felt pads on the bottom so it wouldn't scratch.

Yeah it cost me a few grand last time and that was 20 year's ago, I did a full bedroom last time though which I had to rip out once my son was born and i always planned on fitting the loft out i just never got around to doing it....

But I'm in the process of doing my house up from top to bottom and another recording studio is on the cards

And thanks for the offer i will be sure to message you in a few weeks, I go away on holiday on Monday so it won't be for 3 or 4 weeks depending on work when I get back 👌👍

unfortunately i don't have any pictures of it because of a cloud wipe, but i do have a gif.
my friend had lost a ring and needed a replacement, so i went ahead and made him one for his right thumb out of mild steel. nothing super important, but i still take pride in it.

all i did was cut it down to size, bore it out and shove a threading tool over it to make that spiral pattern. he still wears it.
