"I made a horrible decision to end another human being's life, for reasons of selfishness, and that was my decision at that time," Mark David Chapman said.
"I felt that by killing John Lennon I would become somebody, and instead of that I became a murderer and murderers are not somebodies."

Mark David Chapman, John Lennon's convicted killer, was "denied" after his seventh try at parole Wednesday. Chapman's latest quest for freedom comes ahead of the 32nd anniversary of the death of the former Beatle, a British singer-songwriter who was gunned down outside his Manhattan apartment on December 8, 1980.

Chapman was scheduled to be interviewed by two or three members of the parole board, according to Carole Claren-Weaver, a spokeswoman for the New York Department of Corrections. He was last up for parole in 2010 but was denied because his "discretionary release remains inappropriate at this time and incompatible with the welfare of the community," according to the New York State Division of Parole. He was also denied parole in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008.

Chapman, 57, is serving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison and is being held at the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden. He is in protective custody in a single-person cell, Claren-Weaver said, and is allowed out three hours per day. Since his transfer from Attica this year, Chapman has reapplied to participate in a state program called "family reunion," which allows inmates to spend more time with family members.

Chapman has not had an infraction since 1994. It is not clear whether he currently has legal representation. Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, in previous years has submitted a letter requesting that parole be denied. Her attorney reiterated her position in an e-mail over the weekend.

They should've freed the guy the same day he shot Lennon for doing the world a favor. He killed the man that wrote the most overrated song of all time! I still can't believe "Imagine" was used at the end credits of that movie "The Killing Fields". That song celebrates everything that awful song was about. What a slap in the face to the 2 million who died in Cambodia because of the Khmer Rouge. Chapman is a hero for doing what he did!:rambo:

I'd have to do some homework to agree or disagree with ya friend. Not to mention your also entitled to your own opinion. I guess my main interest in the Lennon case is the belief that it wasn't one dude looking for notoriety. Chapman was the pawn. Lennon's lips were getting pretty loose and anti-US policy.. you know what usually follows after you go down that road.. BANG!

IMO it shouldn't matter who he killed the act remains he killed a man in cold blood for reason except notoriety. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison as far as I see it for taking a human life not because of who the person was.

Well said. If you believe in capital punishment, you'd make a great judge! I guess the Duckingtons and I were just focusing more at the other side of Lennon's death though, but a life lost is a life lost..

Oh I agree Lennon is/was over rated. I mean it's been 32 years already. I'm not even sure why they make such a big to do over the Lennon thing. I mean kinda like Manson. Do we really have to have news stories about his asking for parole everytime he is up? I'm for the DP when there is a 100% proof someone killed someone in cold blood and for all child rapist. :D

Lennon was and still is my Husband's favorite singer/song writer ever and he hated MDC for killing his hero. I have to listen to his damn music all the frickin' time, that and the Beatles, it wasn't the music I grew up too, I have completely opposite taste from him, but yes, Imagine is his all time fave. song and he wants it played at his funeral.:)

Fine! Put him to death! But can they give Chapman a medal posthumously? :lulz: I didn't mean to sound like I'm against Capital Punishment. I'm definitly not! In fact I love looking through the execution threads on here
