Don't put a bat or knife behind the front door, if he knocks & you don't realize who it is he could barge in leaving your safety devices behind door, keep it up the hall where you can take it to the door or run & get it, a hammer just back from the door with a small painting & nails on the floor(to cover your arse) so if you get pushed over the hammer is close for you to get, check the distance out, plus 'being in fear for your life' using a hammer that is going to do some work covers you, bats & knives behind a door could be said to be premeditated, all about covering your arse when you brain someone.

Take him to the ground and then choke him out, keep it locked in for a few minutes though, keep all that nice oxygenated blood from entering his brain. With some luck he'll spend the rest of his life suffering from brain damage. You haven't killed him but he'll wish that you had..
