After the taser and baton not having the desired effect, why didn't he shoot him in his leg, or something..?
They usually just fill em full of lead Shipmate, proper dickheads American cops.
I just wondered because, you're right, the cops do tend to fill 'em with lead, but this cop seemed reluctant to use lethal force for some reason.

Cops are not allowed to aim for legs or arms. If they draw their gun and shoot they are required to aim for the chest if possible. It has been deemed that aiming anywhere else can cause civilian casualties.

Yea that's why you never see them shoot someone in the arm when they have a knife. The handbook says when you shoot, you shoot to kill. Not injury. Same reason he didn't pull his gun and shoot out the tires to stop him from driving away. My stepdad was a sheriff when I was a kid. They were in a police chase where he shot out the front tire and the vehicle lost control and killed the occupants. He was suspended by the Attorney generals office for 30 days and banned from helping during any more pursuits because they were determined to not be a deadly threat.
Thank you for that. I didn't know that to be the case. I guess Hollywood has a lot to answer for.

Yea hollywood is also the place where people were made to believe you could throw a lit cigarette onto gasoline spilled on the ground and it would ignite in a grand explosion. Or that if someone was bit by a poisonous snake you could suck the poison out and save the person. When in reality if you suck on a poisonous snake bite the only thing that will happen is instead of 1 dead body there will be two dead bodies.

I'd always wondered WHY they never just shot the knife outta hand, or just take a leg out. I did also read that in training they Have to aim for the chest area, but i seriously thought that was when they HAD to when they're in great danger from the criminal.
This is also where the term "suicide by cop" comes from because they know the cops are supposed to shoot to kill and not shoot to injure to stop them.

Police officers are trained to shoot to neutralize the threat. Shooting them in the legs or arms still gives them opportunities to continue about whatever circumstances are going on.
