Cops are not allowed to aim for legs or arms. If they draw their gun and shoot they are required to aim for the chest if possible. It has been deemed that aiming anywhere else can cause civilian casualties.

The handbook says when you shoot, you shoot to kill.

Police officers are trained to shoot to neutralize the threat.

Coming from a country where the cops, as a general rule, don't carry firearms (other than tasers), it makes sense now that it's explained to me. Either way, if a cop (whether I like them or not) asks me to stop, I'm stopping! My days of physical combat are over.

Yea if listen and comply then you won't have any trouble. It's when you think they can't do what they are doing thats gets you in trouble. Best to remember cops aren't lawyers so they don't know the law that well but they think they do.
