A song I wroted with my face (true story underneath)
Although a 2018 article, I found it interesting and creepy and I could only find one mention of him on GG in another thread
In Sydney's streets, young Sam did roam,
With dreams of rugby and a future unknown.
A party, a dare, a slug on the floor,
A choice made in jest, but fate had more.
"Eat it, Sam!" his friends did jest,
A slug, a dare, a reckless test.
With laughter and cheers, he swallowed it down,
But soon, dark shadows would abound.
Unseen dangers in that slimy guise,
A parasite lurking, a silent surprise.
It burrowed within, a venomous plight,
Unleashing its fury, hidden from sight.
Days turned to weeks, a coma's embrace,
As Sam lay silent, in a dark eerie space.
A family's anguish, a nation's despair,
As hope flickered dimly in the night air.
Awakening at last, but spazzed forevermore,
With limbs grown heavy, and dreams shattered on the floor.
Yet in his eyes, a spark remained,
But the damage was done, mostly in his brain
Though the road was long, and the journey hard,
They faced each trial, Sam was now a retard
For Sam was more than a victim's tale,
He knew now he should have eaten a snail.
But time, relentless, took its toll,
And Sam, beloved, answered the final call.
With tears in their eyes, his loved ones wept,
As his weary soul from this world slipped.
And let this tale, of this idiotic mug,
Echo the moral: don't eat the slug.
For in life's gambit, heed this advice,
He should've emulated the French, sticking to snails, they're nice

The tragic story of Sam Ballard, a young rugby player from Sydney, gained widespread attention in 2010 when he ingested a garden slug on a dare at a party. Unbeknownst to him, the slug carried the rat lungworm parasite, leading to a rare condition known as eosinophilic meningoencephalitis. Despite his valiant fight, Sam slipped into a coma for 420 days, emerging with severe disabilities. His family tirelessly cared for him, raising awareness about the dangers of rat lungworm disease. Despite his spirit and humor, Sam's health deteriorated, and he passed away in 2018.
