I used to work in an animal shelter. The shelter I worked for was the first "No Kill" shelter in the U.S, which means that no animal will ever be put down due to overcrowding, animals are only put down if they are too sick to save. Even the behavior problem animals were saved, and it was my job in the shelter to work with the "unpredictable" problem cats to get them to the point that they could be adopted. Also, this shelter has a 100% adoption rate, meaning all animals that come in will end up adopted, even if it takes a few years. So basically, this shelter is awesome as fuck.

Over the past few years the shelter has been doing free spay/neuter events a couple times of year. Pretty much anyone can bring in their pet to be fixed for free. Due to the increasing number of spayed and neutered animals in the community, the number of puppies and kittens that were born stray in the community was at an all time low. Because the shelter wasn't being overrun with ridiculous numbers of babies this year, kittens and pups from other shelters in Southern California were able to be transferred up to this shelter. This is AWESOME, because a lot of the other SoCal shelters are notorious for being High Kill shelters. Orange County in particular... most animals will be put down if they're not adopted within a week of arriving. A LOT of people who surrender their animal to a shelter think that it's gonna be safe... "Oh I'm moving and can't take fido, or we're having a baby, or I don't have the money" so they give Fido to a shelter thinking Fido will find a new family. Nope. Fido got put down a week later..

So long story short, because of the actions of this one shelter, shelters across all of Southern California are having less overcrowding problems, and more animals are being put into homes instead of being put down. THIS MAKES ME UNBELIEVABLY HAPPY... I could dance lol.

Thank you. You made me happy today with this.

Lots made me happy today! Firstly; I couldn't sleep last night and had to get up super early to take my youngest to the dentist. It was raining and cold and I wasn't looking forward to the 15 min walk to the bust stop. Just as we were about about to leave, the dentists office called and said they had to reschedule as the dentist was sick. I got right back into bed for a couple hours.
I also had tacos for dinner.
My husband made me crack up when he called me into the bathroom after his shower and told me he was not impressed with the Aussie shampoo I bought as he was under the impression that a giant purple kangaroo would come.
Lastly, my husband has gone out for the night, so I have the bed and remote
To myself!!!!

d'awwwww. that's sweet :). did you cry or anything? (tough guys cry too :D)
Lols no - no crying. Usually she calls first and hearing a key unlocking my apartment door took me way off guard. But was a nice surprise. I have 4 daughters and this one I see the most - she's worse than my mom, calling everyday, lols.
