Sir Elton John told fans he had lost his eyesight and could not see the stage at a red carpet launch on Sunday night.
The 77-year-old revealed over the northern hemisphere summer that he had lost his vision in one eye while on holiday in France, and last week said his poor eyesight had put his new album on hold.

On Sunday night he told the red carpet launch of The Devil Wears Pradamusical in London’s West End: “As some of you may know I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it.”
He left the stage early with David Furnish, his husband.
It comes after Mr Furnish, 62, said he had been forced to “confront” the reality of Sir Elton’s failing health.

The legendary musician has battled numerous illnesses and injuries in recent years, including prostate cancer in 2017 as well as his eye injury.
Asked last week when his new album with Bernie Taupin, which he announced last year, would come out, Sir Elton told America’s ABC News Good Morning America: “I don’t know. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything, and well, I just have to get off my backside.
“I want to see our children get married”
“I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.
“So there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but it’s … I’m kind-of stuck at the moment because I can do something like this [an interview], but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.
“We’re taking initiative to try and get it better … It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen, and it kind of floored me. And I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, can’t watch anything.”
In an Instagram post at the time, he wrote: “It’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
His headline set at Glastonbury in 2023 was his last UK performance as part of a marathon 330-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which he drew to a close with an emotionally charged show in Stockholm, Sweden.

In a new documentary, the veteran singer confessed that he might not live to see his children Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, get married.
“I want to see our children get married,” the singer reflected in Elton John: Never Too Late. “But I don’t think I’m going to be around for that.”
Mr Furnish, who married John in 2014, added: “That really upset me.”
“Because in my mind I sort of think Elton is going to live forever – we all think that – and Elton is so vibrant that it’s an easy thing to believe, but it forces you to confront that reality.”
At the London premiere of the documentary, Sir Elton reflected on some of the health issues he has battled.
“I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix,” he said, according to the Radio Times. “I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left of me is my left hip. But I’m still here.”
The Disney+ documentary follows the musician on his marathon 330-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert tour and looks back on his 55-year career.
It explores his rise to international fame in the 1970s, his struggle to come to terms with his sexuality, his battles with cocaine, and the crippling emptiness he suffered at the height of his success.
Much of the film’s narrative is drawn from the previously unheard audiotapes of Sir Elton’s interview with Alexis Petridis, the ghostwriter of his 2019 autobiography.
Mr Furnish, who co-directed the film with RJ Cutler, an American filmmaker, said it was important to show intimate moments between the fathers and their sons.
“They were a little uncomfortable at first when they saw it,” he said, “but then we talked about what this film might do in terms of showing people in the world that having two dads is the same as any other family.
“That you don’t need a mum and a dad – that families come in all shapes and sizes – which is what we’ve read to them in their storybooks since they were born.”
In the film’s final moments, Zachary and Elijah hug Sir Elton on stage at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, his last US date.
To accompany the documentary, Sir Elton has released a new song with US star Brandi Carlile, Never Too Late.

At seventy-seven, Elton John's about done,
Once a Rocket Man, he's now no fun,
His voice wavers, he's going blind,
When he kicks the bucket, I won't mind.

He's like some garish faded pageant queen,
His skin is pale with a satin sheen,
He once sparkled like a superstar,
Soon to be ash in a silver jar.

Love him, or hate him - you know his name,
He's a gay icon of historic fame,
Now he fades away like a candle flame,
Will we ever see his like again?

I think David furnished a fucking mega wad into Elton's chops resulting in a festering case of pinkeye. Nothing a course of doxycycline won't clear up in a jif
