I think movements like BLM and the continual criticism of the western enlightenment provide 'people of colour' with an inflated sense of their own worth. We sure get that in Australia.

Any kid who's stolen a car and wrapped it around a pole in a police chase is suddenly an instant hero and a victim of 'systemic racism'.

If they get to gaol then not only are the statistics of blacks in custody rolled out to show not that this cohort is making a load of bad choices but that the system is 'systemically racist'.

Then, given their lack of regard for self health and, in the Aus context, for traditional aboriginals, illiterate of any inkling of western medicine, they are incarcerated with chronic and multiple health issues and thus more likely to die in custody than non aboriginals, then we get the 'Black Deaths In Custody' stuff rolled out.

A mate told me who lives up North when the aboriginals were given free new homes to live in by the NT government years ago, they took out all the windows, doors, and would build fires in the lounge room to cook their snakes and kangaroos. On the communities this behaviour is common. Then when someone dies in a house no one can live there. And so every one lives in squalor outside.

I was out on Santa Theresa Mission (no missionaries now, all part of 'self determination') about 200km down a sand track south of Alice Springs. there was a willy willy (dust tornado) about 5000 feet high, brown in the sunlight. Throughout the brown of the dust were these sparkles and flashes of silver. It was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
