He became the 47th President of the United States - Donald Trump.
In the 1960's he'd have been institutionalised and heavily medicated with drugs including those that cause Tardive dyskinesia. He'd have gone on to a slow cognitive decline as each episode of florid psychosis would kill more brain cells.
In his 40's and 50's he would have developed a shuffling gait and would wander around with his tongue involuntarily moving in his mouth, probably drooling and by his 60's he probably be dead.

Extremely sad, likely the historical reason for why people believed in demons and demonic posession. Perfectly normal people, all of a sudden act differently for no explained reason. It must have been horrifying to witness and even more terrifying to be the person afflicted by the sickness and not understanding why.

That's the even crazier part. Most of them don't believe they are sick at all. To them, they were not significantly different from others.
Kind of like how one is not much different from someone else simply because they prefer lemon in their tea instead of milk or cream.
Sick people rarely know they're sick. Sure, they're told they are but they cannot believe it. To them, WE are the sick ones.
You're sure of yourself, right? Now imagine one day you're forced against your will into a treatment center because you're different. You wouldn't grasp it. Your sense of self is established because it's all you've ever known.
I had a friend with cerebral palsy, and because of this his legs would never fully straighten. His knees were always bent and thus he walked in a very strange way.
He liked to joke "I'm walking perfectly normal, it's the rest of you that are fucked up!"
So did he ever get to play the piano?
Actually, he did. I did some follow up research and this talented man became an accomplished pianist, selling out every single porta-potty he plays in.
The best part? He plays acoustically. NO BATTERIES! Such wow.
Some researches say that their is a link between autism and schizophrenia. There are plenty of gifted individuals who are either schizophrenic or have ASD.
It's the lack of insight that causes this.
They are tortured though. I've worked with quite a few during my time in mental health. Some are insightful when they are well but hate the side effects of the drugs. The less insightful think 'great, I'm well now, I'll stop the drugs'... a few days later they're unwell...
They become dangerous when they get 'command hallucinations' that command them to do things that they have no power to resist. Like pulling their eyes out or killing their mother.
And even more dangerous when they have the paranoia element so they hide what they're thinking.
When I was a young social worker in mental heatlh I was sent round to this guys house as he'd missed his medication for months. This was during the time of deinstitionisation and he'd kind of dropped through the cracks.
He opened the door, asked me in and then closed it, locked it and put the key in his pocket. I sat down next to a nice big heavy stone ashtray with the plan to brain him if the shit hit the fan. He had sunken, dark rimmed eyes, looked very unwell, and said he was not interested in any meds.
I said 'Great. I'll let them know you're all well now...'
He then let me out...
Jesus... I look back now and if I was the manager I would never have let someone go alone! Madness!
