They're called fruit bats or in Aus, flying foxes. I get them in my garden at home. I'll come out at night and they'll be in the fruit trees and I'll see these black shapes about a meter across flapping off into the dark.Nice. I don't remember seeing a bat up close chewing food like this. 😍

They can carry a nasty virus. See below. In Darwin I often saw them hangind dead from the electric wires as they'd land and hang there and then flap their wings and touch the other wire and bang! dead bat.
