In June 2020 Mr. Welch was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In 2021 Fusari (attempting to blame the husband entirely) testified that her husband was abusive, would rape and beat her, claiming that she was not permitted to take Mary to a doctor and blamed Welch's abuse for not being able to provide care for her. However, Fusari also claimed she never noticed that Mary was unhealthy, and claimed she had no idea what caused her death.
In November 2021, she was also sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for first-degree murder. She was additionally sentenced 15 to 30 years on the charge of first-degree child abuse.
As of 2023, due to a change in laws in Michigan, Fusari appealed the conviction and attempted to withdraw her plea.
You have to wonder how a person is wired when they don't react to the cues a baby gives when they are uncomfortable and hungry. All animals can do this. so it's not an intelligence thing.
I read the stats on breast feeding in Australia the other day. only about 27% of women are still breastfeeding at 6 months. With the massive drop off in breast feeding the link between uncomfortable breasts and the need to feed is broken.
