bizarre Russian Humor

whats so funny
In Russia, you're either about to compose a musical masterpiece on a piano that can make grown men cry, are about to paint a master class portrait or landscape out of oil paints, or get very drunk every day.

This man is one of those things. That's why it's funny.

Unfunny and I spent far too much time writing this comment

One of the few things that's funny about Russia is that they had a ruler who was so bad, they named him "the terrible". Tsar Ivan IV's (1530-1584) favorite execution methods, for his and his oppressive personal guard, the Oprichniki, included boiling alive, impalement, being roasted over an open fire or being torn limb from limb by horses. Below is how he treated his son and heir, bludgeoning him to death after a dispute over his daughter-in-law's clothing while pregnant with his grandchild. This is Ilya Repin’s painting Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan, which was painted in 1885, depicting the horrific deed and is oil on canvas. Because of the egregious lack of the ability to control his temper, and of providing a suitable heir and lineage for the Russian throne, such chaos, lawlessness and hilarity ensued after his death that it was called "The Time of Troubles".
