Nah, I wouldn't want to be an 18th century pirate, I would want to be a 1980's pirate using speed boats to smuggle cocaine to Miami, that was the true golden age of piracy. IRS was cut by the Reagan administration, just toss all the cocaine money into the bank and nobody cared, then toss it in the stock market 10× your money legit. And you can actually use your money for modern things. That's what I like about the 1980's pirates compared to the 18th century ones, there was nothing to actually buy in the 18th century besides grog, a few cannons, swords, hookers, and maybe a little opium, only to die from Syphilis or Tetanus. In the 1980's you could buy a helicopter, machine guns, mansions, antibiotics to treat syphilis when you caught it, no tetanus because you got vaccinated, start a cassino, clubs, golf courses, private jumbo jet, yachts, you could bassically become Donald Trump.
