According to preliminary information, the Reales Tamarindos bus collided with the San Plácido bus from behind. According to previous reports from local residents, the two buses were racing each other on this busy thoroughfare. In one of the amateur videos , the filmer can be heard confirming this. "The Reales, the Reales, just ran into the San Plácido bus, for going fast as usual," the video narrates.

However, security camera footage shows that the interprovincial bus collided with the intraprovincial bus (San Plácido) after an apparent failure in its braking system. The actual cause is currently unknown and will need to be investigated based on this and other evidence etc. (...)"

That's most likely the bus conductor and not the driver. Driver was still on the driver's seat beeping his horn almost to the last moment.
