But police have always had guns, just need to be trained and wanting to use them, most forces prefer non lethal in sight of the public, like tasers
But during the wars the police were trained and given firearms as a backup to the home guard while protecting politicians and the royal family, and in later years the guns were kept in secret locations where the police could get at them easily,
But now the will have police at airports, transport hubs, palaces in full show with their guns, others are kept in the officers cars locked away, a couple of cars turned up here to sort a traveller family out last year, and brought out their h&k MP5’s Plus their side arms
But they’ve never not had guns since like the 1800’s

Unlike America shooting your firearm means considerable paperwork and if you shot someone you spend time in the shrinks office going through evaluations to make sure your able to continue doing the job and re training for firearms
