The cat needs to see a vet something is wrong with it. Cats show pain through being irritable or hiding. Since there was nowhere for him to hide in there he chose warfare

Cats can be the worst. I've never had a cat like this but my friend had a cat that attacked me and apparently other people regularly. Luckily he kicked it off me. Literally soccer kicked it off me. Why he kept it I dont know. My cats are very affectionate and cuddly. They even get along pretty well with the dogs, but if I had a cat like this I'd have to consider getting rid of it.

There seem to be very many causes for sudden and "inexplicable" aggression from a cat towards its owner. She needs to see a vet.

EDIT: Before attacking her it looked like it was catching a particular smell, from her foot or slipper, which might have triggered the attack.
