I almost got hit by a van that got rear ended. Had I been a little slower that day, I would've been flattened by the van and the street light that it hit. I took off running after heard the initial crash and when I saw that shit coming towards me. I even got hit lightly by a small chunk of the bumper. I was actually going to check on the driver from the van, but people were already checking on him.

If there have been any attempts on my life behind the veil, I've managed to be either a) oblivious to it or b) got lucky affff that it missed, or hell, even c) the perfect combination of both.

The universe been here fur 13.8 billion years. We're here for 100 if we're "lucky" (depending on your condition at that point). To be wiped out by something, based simply on wrong place at the wrong time is the universe shitting on us really. The fact that you can live your entire life sheltered and attempting to manipulate every step in your path... to be taken out by some random Chinese person who jumped out of the window, 20 stories above you... fuck man.

Nah, you're correct about all that, and the universe. The fact that our life was able to exist here is a miracle itself. There's so many planets out there, but ours sustain life.
