A spokesperson for the force said: "We’re aware of a video circulating online showing two men involved in an altercation in the Felling area of Gateshead this afternoon. Our officers were on scene just after 4.30pm having been flagged down by a member of the public with the incident ongoing in the street.
"As a result, two men have been arrested and are currently in police custody at hospital. They are both being treated for serious injuries. Whilst enquiries are at an early stage, we believe the men were already known to one another prior to the report.
"Our officers have also confirmed no knives were located at the scene. A full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the events – however we would like to reassure the public we do not believe there is or has been any risk to the wider public.

I expected to see “police are on the lookout for two white male suspects”
