    Indian WSBK round cancelled
The Indian round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship has been cancelled.

The debut WSBK event at the Buddh International Circuit had already been pushed back to become the planned season finale on November 17, but has now been removed 'owing to operational challenges'.

The cancellation is more bad news for the circuit, which hosted India's first F1 Grand Prix in 2011, but now looks set to skip the 2014 F1 season.

Ostensibly this is due to an early 2015 race date, which would have put the 2014 and 2015 grands prix close together, but India's lengthy customs requirements have also caused logistical (and financial) headaches.

Such 'red tape' seemed to explain why WSBK's planned Indian debut was due to be held one month after the previous, Jerez, event - although the official reason for the initial date change, from round 2 to round 14, was "an insufficient period of time to properly finalise the training of the marshals and medical staff".

That seemed an unlikely issue for a circuit that already hosts F1 - although experienced marshals and medical staff may be flown in from other countries for the grand prix.

Either way, Wednesday's FIM statement gave a similar reason for the decision to cancel the World Superbike event and also refers to preparations for 2015, suggesting India will not be present on next year's schedule either:

"The FIM has announced that, owing to operational challenges, Jaypee Sports International Ltd (JPSI) and Dorna World SBK Organization (DWO) have decided to cancel the 2013 WSBK Indian Round that was scheduled to be held at Buddh International Circuit (BIC) on 17 November 2013.

"JPSI, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and the Indian Motorsport Marshals Club (IMMC) are working intensely together to make the Indian round as safe as possible in preparation for 2015.

"As a starting point, the BIC will play host to both the FMSCI 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler National Championship races from 13 to 14 September with fully trained IMMC Marshals officiating at the venue. JPSI has conveyed this to DWO, who appreciate the efforts being made to make it possible to host a round at some time in the future.

"FMSCI President Mr. Vicky Chandhok said: “JPSI confirms its interest in going ahead with the race in the future. We look forward to them concluding an arrangement with DWO in order to arrive at a mutually convenient date and to ensure that India has the privilege of hosting a round in the near future.”"

The Indian event was due to be held on a slightly shortened 5.014km (13 turn) layout at the Buddh International Circuit, rather than the 5.14km (16 turn) F1 configuration.

The now 13-round 2013 WSBK season will thus conclude with the Spanish round, at Jerez, on October 20.

Racing Numbers: Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix

Thursday, 15 August 2013
Indianapolis marks the first race in the second half of the 2013 MotoGP™ season. Marc Marquez won the last two at the Sachsenring and Laguna Seca, but that might not be the only number on the minds of his rivals…

37 – There have been 37 MotoGP races without a winner from the USA, since Ben Spies won at the Dutch TT in 2011.

32 years – On the first day of practice at the Indianapolis Grand Prix it will be exactly 32 years since Barry Sheene won the 500 Swedish GP at Anderstorp. This was the last time a British rider won a Grand Prix in the premier class.

29 – The victory by Marc Marquez at Laguna Seca was the 29th time that he had stood on the top step of the podium in Grand Prix racing – the same number of GP victories as Loris Capirossi achieved throughout his career. Another victory for Marquez will put him level in terms of GP wins with three-time 125 World Champion Luigi Taveri.

27 – There have been 27 MotoGP races without a rider from the USA finishing on the podium, since Ben Spies finished second at the final race of 2011 in Valencia. This is the longest sequence without a USA rider finishing on the podium in the premier class of GP racing since Kenny Roberts Jr. ended a run of 33 races at the first race of 1999, in Malaysia.

17 years – On race day at the Indianapolis Grand Prix it will be exactly 17 years since Alex Criville beat Mick Doohan at the 1996 Czech GP by just 0.002 seconds. This was the closest ever recorded finish to a 500 GP since the introduction of electronic timing in 1990 which was capable of measuring times to one thousands of a second.

8 – Both Luis Salom and Maverick Viñales have been on the podium at the opening eight races of the year. In the 65-year history of Grand Prix racing, only one rider has had a longer sequence of podium finishes from the start of the season in the Moto3/125 class; this was now team owner Fausto Gresini, who won the opening ten of the eleven 125 class races in the 1987 season.

7 – The last seven MotoGP races in the USA have been won by Honda riders. The last non-Honda MotoGP winner in the USA was Jorge Lorenzo, riding a Yamaha at Laguna Seca in 2010.

5 years – On the day of qualifying at the Indianapolis GP it will be exactly five years since Stefan Bradl won the 125 race at the 2008 Czech GP, to become the sixth son of a Grand Prix winner to also take a GP win.

3 – Honda riders have won the MotoGP race at Indianapolis for the last three years.

3 - Indianapolis is one of just three current circuits on which Jorge Lorenzo has not started from pole in any of the Grand Prix classes; the other two are Austin and Valencia.

2 – Marc Marquez has won both races to have taken place so far in the USA in 2013. If he also wins at Indianapolis, he will become only the third rider of all-time to win three premier class GP races in the same country in a single season. The other riders to have done this are Jorge Lorenzo (Jerez, Barcelona and Valencia in 2010) and Casey Stoner (Barcelona, Aragon and Valencia in 2011), meaning in both cases the three wins apiece were all collected in Spain.

1 - With Aleix Espargaro failing to add to his points total at the US GP, the only rider who has scored points in all of the first nine races of the year is Andrea Dovizioso.

Crutchlow on moving to Ducati Team

Crutchlow faces the media over Ducati move

Thursday, 15 August 2013
For the first time, Cal Crutchlow has explained in great detail his decision to switch from Monster Yamaha Tech3 to Ducati Team.

Since making his MotoGP™ debut in 2011, Crutchlow has always competed with the French Tech3 outfit which last year helped to deliver his first ever podium finish. During the mid-summer break which ends at Indianapolis this weekend, it was confirmed that the Englishman had signed with Ducati for the next two seasons.

"After Laguna we decided that we were going to stay in America and take a break here, but it wasn’t too much of a break," he smiled in Thursday’s press conference at Indianapolis. "We had a busy first week and then we obviously released that I will be riding for Ducati next year. I am really pleased and it was nice to get that done, as we can now settle for the rest of the year and see how that goes."

Crutchlow added that the most difficult part of his decision was waving goodbye to an outfit with which he has become particularly attached since joining MotoGP™.

"Yes, there are pros and cons for everything," he continued. "The most difficult thing was making the phone call to Herve (Poncharal, Team Manager for Monster Yamaha Tech3). It was quite an emotional phone call. It was a difficult decision to make but I am pleased to have secured my future. My main focus for now is to continue riding for Tech3 and then hopefully we can take that motivation into next year."

The move means that, in 2014, Crutchlow will be reunited with Italy’s Andrea Dovizioso who was first a teammate at Tech3 for the 2012 season.

"I think there is a lot to be improved," Crutchlow admitted of the Ducati bike. "The strong point is that it is fast, but the rest I don’t know. It’s too early to turn around and make a comment. I don’t know whether at the moment it suits my style and doesn’t suit others guys, but at the moment I can’t comment.

"I would never make a comment on the way guys have ridden it - it’s not for me to say. Obviously Valentino (Rossi) has ridden it, Andrea (Dovizioso) and Nicky (Hayden). How do I know I won’t just jump on it and I won’t need to make a change at all? Obviously it needs to improve but it is too early to comment on others."

Regarding the Ducati deal itself, Crutchlow explained:

"As I said, Yamaha and the team I am riding for is great. It was a difficult decision to leave, but in terms of a contract I believe the one I was being offered was a lot better than the one I have. I spoke with people around me and with Herve. It wasn’t tough in the sense of anything else, but it was tough to leave the team."

Halfway through the 2013 season, Crutchlow lies fifth in the Riders’ Championship and 37 points in arrears of leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), while highest-placed Ducati rider Dovizioso is seventh and 82 points behind the leader.

Sucks for Stoner, mad respect. Perfect recoveries everytime he dropped.

Well i personally like rossi but i cant take anything away from !stoner ,lorenzo,or pedrosa for that matter. A few years back when stoner punched abraham while on track i lost some respect for stoner but he did have a point and that was stay offline when not on a hot lap
