Can't Fix Stupid

So, a senior CIA official ( David Rush ) was arrested last week, after investigators found hundreds of gold bars worth over $40 million,
stashed in his Virginia residence, a fortune that he apparently brought home from work, according to court papers.

This post is not about him, but the mistakes he made.

Years ago ...
I was involved in an investigation of a Dept of Energy employee, who had been pilfering parts of every weapons order he made.
He would order say 20 of a particular item, then 3-4 would go missing. He would then wait 3-6 months, list and resell them.
Using Soldier of Fortune 'type ads' or going to gun shows, etc.

Unfortunately for him, everything had serial numbers and cage codes. He also used his Departments line of credit to buy = making
each Large/Valuable purchase and the eventual theft of a percentage of those orders, trackable.

As a Critical Infrastructure Government Agency, the Department of Energy has access and the ability to order weapons and high-end
Night Vision equipment, etc - along with ammo and other accessories. Over several years, the Perp had made stupid money doing this,
what is known as the 'Steal, then Resell Flip.' ... Just like our C.I.A. Goldbug, he kept everything at home = Stupid.

So,
if you're going to be a Scumbag and steal and keep a GaBillion Dollars worth of stuff, this would be the right way to Stash it.

* Don't keep it in your own home (Drug Traffickers' eventually figured this out.)
Don't even leave it at a Known Associates Home or Business.
Not your Mommas house or any nearby relatives home or business.

* Put the questionable items into storage:
Use a Beard (front-man), who then adds you as an allowed-to-access individual.
This keeps you off the books, as the Beard would be the only Lease Related Individual on record.

This causes the requirement for Law Enforcement to generate a second set of Warrants and a second layer of Probable Cause,
since it's You, not the front man they're after. Giving you time to slide in and remove said items.

How?
Have a second Beard/Front-man rent the adjoining unit, the separating walls, only being held up by removable screws.
You can steal everything a second time and do so while not being observed ... from a now 3rd parties unit.
Your Beard (front-man), should not be a relative, spouse or Known Associate.

Any use of this 'stashing method' should be at least 4 Road Bridges away, from your operational home/business = 20+ miles away
in rural areas, generally speaking.

If you choose the right direction of those 4 Bridges:
This will also put your stash location over into a connecting County, causing yet additional delays, due to yet another Law Enforcement
Agency (Sheriff's Department, etc) getting involved, with the resulting complications.

Another angle is to rent Climate Controlled/Indoor units, since that Limits Access ...
(You have to have an indoor unit to access the Air Conditioned building), plus it keeps your Hot items Cool.

Here's a possibly related and fun rabbit hole to explore. Yamashita's Gold

The term "Yamashita's Gold" refers to the legendary billions in war loot allegedly hidden by Japanese forces in the Philippines during WWII. Conspiracy theories and investigative books allege that the CIA recovered this treasure and used it to fund the "Black Eagle Trust," a covert slush fund used to bankroll secret operations during the Cold War. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
The connection between the alleged looted gold and the CIA encompasses several key claims:
  • The "Black Eagle Trust": Authors Sterling and Peggy Seagrave allege in their book, Gold Warriors, that U.S. intelligence agencies found the "Golden Lily" loot (the hidden treasure). This gold was allegedly used by the CIA to create secret political funds in over 40 countries to buy elections, bribe foreign officials, and shore up allied treasuries. [1, 2, 3]
  • Historical Skepticism: While the CIA and U.S. government have consistently denied these claims, the narrative remains a popular subject for documentaries and historians investigating covert post-WWII US-Japan relations. [1, 2, 3]
You can read more about the origins of the treasure theory on Wikipedia. For a deeper look at the allegations of covert government funds, check out investigative reporting by the South China Morning Post. [1]

I'm still trying to nake sense of this story.
It revolves around America's use of gold as currency in war torn areas where inflation makes regular currency worthless. But how he could accumulate THAT much gold is astonishing. And still unexplained.

Agree ...
The B-roll (backstory) on this C.I.A. Gold embezzler is murky.

By the time it's all said and done:
It'll probably come out, that he was in a Shipping & Receiving position (Dock Manager.)
THE - bringing it home from work - comment, in the original article a week ago (N.Y. Times)

There are many foreign Leaders and Black-ops type folks, that don't trust Fiat Currency and
will only take payment/bribes in Hard Assets = Gold.

So, the C.I.A. must actively procure and move around a lot of Bullion.
A Bar of Gold here, a couple of more from over there, if he was the Manager of that movement,
he would definitely be in a position to steal.

I wouldn't even use storage, I'd hide it in a wooded area and make sure my trips in and out are not followed. Don't EVER take your phone with you. Drive to the area using very convoluted 'long way around' impossible for anyone to actually follow you without being seen by you. If in the chance you are actually successfully followed you need to have created an Alibi .. a decoy treasure (so have a tin full of your grandmothers jewelry and a few hundred in old notes buried there so you can say that's why you were there) . The REAL stash should require a twenty minute or more walk through scrub and long grass etc and stash a shovel in a spot well hidden so your car never has tools or alerts suspicion. In the one chance out of fifty billion you happen to be startled by Grizzly Adams just say you stopped to take a shit in the bushes. Don't ever visit the place unless you have well established alibis .. even better if you have a way to use a bus or train to avoid the plate readers on roadsides.

WARNING:

I've known several Survivalist/Preppers, the hard core 'End Times/Sky is Falling' - types.

Hid water proof tubes/bagged items, etc ... only to have the Land Owner/Farmer/
Utilities Company/Construction workers dig it up accidentally.
Forest Rangers will dig up any new/suspicious dig sites = Drug Smuggling/Murders.

Before they could do anything - the cops were rambling through their stuff,
them not being able to prove ownership of said items or Land where located = Cops take items.

Mini-Storage/Front-man method really is the Best Way.
