A four-year-old girl was severely struck in Trujillo when a vehicle dragged the net of an improvised volleyball court in the street, pulling along one of the posts supporting it.
The incident occurred in the San Isidro neighborhood, where neighbors had strung up the net to play. The child, who was accompanied by her mother, became frightened when she saw the car's lights approaching just before the impact.
Despite the violence of the blow, the driver showed no intention of stopping and fled the scene, leaving the injured girl in the street.
The little girl was immediately taken to the La Libertad Regional Hospital, where she remains hospitalized and is showing favorable progress, though she is under medical observation and awaiting a CT scan to rule out internal injuries. Her recovery will be a long process due to the nature of the blow to her head, and will require prolonged therapy.
