A 6th-grade elementary school student with the initials KA (13) recklessly jumped from the third floor of the Serangan Traditional Village Market in South Denpasar on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at around 5:00 PM WITA (Central Indonesian Time).
This tragic incident occurred while she was making video content with her friends; the motive behind the victim's sudden jump remains a mystery.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Denpasar Police, First Police Inspector (Iptu) Azel Arisandi, explained that the viral incident took place on the east side of the market, which is located on Tukad Penataran Street.
According to Ketut Prasi (46), a local resident at the scene, the area was suddenly thrown into a panic when people crowded around to see a young girl who had fallen from a height.
The victim was at the location with five of her friends.
The victim's father, MK (40), explained that his daughter had been dancing to be recorded by her friends, similar to the video that later went viral on social media.
However, while dancing, KA suddenly ran and jumped from the third floor of the market for no apparent reason.
In the viral video, rumors circulated linking the victim's actions to the supposedly haunted nature of the location.
"The victim was celebrating her birthday with five of her friends. For whatever reason, the victim was dancing, as seen in the circulating video," Iptu Azel explained to Tribun Bali on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
"Suddenly, of her own accord, the victim just ran and jumped from the third floor," he added.
As a result of this reckless action, the victim fell unconscious and suffered serious injuries.
The hard impact with the ground caused fractures in both of the victim's legs, as well as in her right arm.
Iptu Azel Arisandi confirmed that the victim is currently receiving intensive medical care.
Although she lost consciousness at the scene, the elementary school student's condition is now gradually improving after undergoing medical treatment at the hospital.
"The victim was initially unconscious, but has now regained consciousness. Both of her legs and her right arm are broken," he said.
"The victim has also successfully undergone surgery at Bali Mandara Hospital," concluded the South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head. (*)
