A chain of izakayas in Japan used to offer tapas for between 300 and 500 yen, but has since withdrawn the service to change its image and avoid criticism.
In bars, people look for different moments. Some just want to drink, others prefer to meet friends, and there are also those seeking luck in love. In some places, there was an unexpected option: paying for a slap to "sober up."Until recently, this was the approach of a traditional Japanese restaurant chain. For a low price, around three euros, waiters offered loud and distinctive tapas. The idea seemed eccentric, but it had a place on the menu of izakayas, typical Japanese bars.
According to reports from Independent and South China Morning Post (SCMP), until two months ago, the chain allowed customers to pay to receive a “binta”, the name given to a slap in the face.
