Robert Duvall, an Oscar-winning, Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer, has died. His most famous film roles included The Godfather: Part 1, Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Lonesome Dove, and The Apostle. He was nominated for an Oscar seven times and won once for his performance in By the Grace of God. He was 95.
Duvall died Sunday at his ranch in Virginia, his wife Luciana Pedraza announced his death on Facebook.
Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, dear friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully, lovingly, and peacefully at home
— the Argentine-born actress said.
To the world, he was an Oscar-winning actor, director, and storyteller, but to me, he was simply my everything. His passion for his craft was only surpassed by his deep love for his characters, his love of good food and his love of company. Bob gave his all to each role, to portray the characters and the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he left us all with lasting and unforgettable memories. Thank you for your support of Bob over the years and for giving us the time and peace to celebrate the memories he left behind

Robert Duvall's career
Duvall studied drama at university, then served two years in the US Army, before beginning his acting studies in New York in the mid-1950s. After playing roles in theatre, he got his first film role in the book adaptation of Don't Hurt the Blackbird!, where, although he didn't have a single line, it launched him towards world fame.
Francis Ford Coppola had a great influence on his career. They first worked together in the 1969 film Rain Men, and then in the first two parts of the epic film The Godfather in 1972 and 1974. Robert Duvall played the Don's Irish-born adopted son, Tom Hagen. (Contrary to expectations, he did not appear in the third part, as he could not agree on a cast with the studio.)
Coppola cast Duvall again in the 1979 war drama Apocalypse Now. After that, he moved from supporting roles to starring roles. He was nominated for an Academy Award seven times in total, winning once, for his leading role in 1983's By the Grace of God. In that film, he played a country musician and sang in his own voice. His last Oscar nomination was for The Judge in 2014, at the age of 84.
He wrote and directed three films: The Apostle in 1997, Tango for Assassins in 2002, and Wild Horses in 2015. His career spanned seven decades, and he was active almost until the end of his life: his last film appearance was in a scene in the 2022 Netflix sports film All on One, starring Adam Sandler.
He was married four times, but had no children.
