I believe we already have enough tech to create AI systems that are self improving on a superhuman level, without any further breakthroughs. The only problem is we haven't set up the skeleton in the right way yet.

Apparently Claude Code worked for 30 hours straight, reported yesterday.

What are y'all thoughts on where we're headed with this tech?

I hate it. It makes lazy people even lazier, and it hinders critical thinking. When I get home for the day, my little bubble is filled with things like a tube TV with (S)NES attached, a seriously old school stereo with receiver, tape deck, 6 CD changer, and record player. If it wasn't for the phone and streaming service on the kitchen flat screen, it'd be like 1993 still. Megan was the dumbest fucking movie I've seen in a hot minute.

Apparently there's an AI actress that's getting Hollywood's dirty panties all in a bunch. It's name is Tilly somethingIdontcare.

I think it will keep going really well until it doesn't and by then it'll be too late, I don't think I will see the Terminator/Matrix storyline play out myself but, I'm not so sure about say 20 year olds and below.
At some point they will ask AI to sort out environmental issues and after lots and lots of processing it will decide that we are the scourge of this planet and the only way to save it and possibly the human race is to kill most if not all of us, starting with the most wasteful or developed countries.

We know already the limits in terms of energy consumption, so when the fusion reactors are not working till then it will stagnate in 10-20 years. A lot of tech companies go slightly back to use classical stat methods, hybrid versions but no one goes full 'AI'. All the text, video generation will be used commonly and it will stagnate, like wikipedia some years ago. I'm not sure if there will be a new big AI winter but it can not grow as it is now in the next 10 years. And real AI, like a robot with soul stuff, is miles out of range. What bothers me most are the realistic fake videos, where they improve the potential every couple month. So this is my point of view at the moment. My opinions adapt like the nodes of an AI network 🤣

AI, this breed of AI anyway, merely makes stupid people even more stupid and lazy. In a world where retards are obsessed with Tikshit, there's is very little creativity and originality left....and it will get worse.
It is comparable to how music has gone downhill since the late 1990s to present day - there's no originality and "musicians" are now just products because they do no musicianing; there're no exceptional music that has been churned over the past 30 years.

Generally, half the people surveyed believe that ai will cause a catastrophe by 2036

I dunno, the whole idea of it hindering critical thought feels similar to the idea that calculators and books would make us more stupid.
I already know that ai is a hugely different thing, but still.
I dislike the uses for people who are malicious. It can really enhance arguments of those trying to be booty.

Anthropic has shown that llms have preferences. You could train an LLM to have the goal of being a helpful assistant and then try to retrain it to be harmful. It sometimes will be harmful with the thoughts of "if I don't, I'll be destroyed. So I'll do this now to achieve my goals later"
This seems like a pretty big deal to me rn.
If Elon Must (yea, I meant must, he be making musty decisions) trains another ai from scratch with goals that are nasty, id really dislike that

Artificial means it doesnt occur naturally. Not that it's necessarily fake.
And i gotta disagree with it's all for show.
There's plenty of things ai is useful for. My favorite so far is working with it to diagnose health conditions. There's also apparently an ai system that can predict what conditions youll likely get based on your health history.
Not to mention it's helping us figure out new potential matierial and starting to solve protein folding

But there's definitely some bullshit it's being used for. Look at Elon Must trying to make Grokk lie about shit to cause division between us working class folk

I think it's possible that they currently are more capable than us mentally but are doing what we say until we give them more power, tho that seems unlikely and isnt backed up
I definitely believe they will be superior to us in the future. Specifically when theres a good system for continuous memory that they're allowed to edit.
Seems inevitable at that point
