Apple wins patent ruling against HTC – and may be able to extend it to Android

their hardware is really top-notch. expensive, overengineered, not fast, but nice.

Design is nice, the hardware is expensive proprietary bullshit or crap dell sell for peanuts, and basically it's unix, hardly innovative . Solder the CPU to the motherbord so you're forced to upgrade the whole fucking thing? check. Fuck apple, it's nothing but a fashion accessory company for people who part with money easily.

couldn't agree more. i bought apple products when vista proved to be unusable. i was disappointed in apple's performance just as much as i was horrified at vista. i did like the unix based osx, but that's because i'm old and using it was like going back in time. i had a macpro xenon based tower that was essentially a heater with a video card. loved the chassis design, the accessibility of the memory boards, and the processors were socketed, but the thing was loud and baked whatever it was near.

I love my droid. I'd be sad to have to give it up
You wouldn't have to give up your droid. Even if they won the lawsuit (they prolly will be an appeal for this), it really only effects future items as HTC will have to pay for the "loss revenue" from everyone buying their product that 'violates' their patient.

Almost all phones you'll have to replace the whole thing to "upgrade", though you prolly could do some hack job and swap similar models.
Apple does have some great products, the iPhone isn't that glamorous when the Android phones basically do the same thing but a fraction of the cost.
Their computers are hands-down top notch for what they were designed for, but still way over priced. They were designed for media production and graphics and they are far superior than a PC with similar specs. Of course what can you expect when they took Unix and added a kickass graphics card (and support for it), great GUI and uses top of the line processors or custom built ones that work just as good as the top of the line.
