It's the one day a year the British consider putting a bet on, some even get the kids involved so they can get them addicted to gambling early.
I was only 8 when I won £18.90 from a 50p each way bet on the winner and of course I felt rich as fuck, a Mars Bar or a can of Lilt wasn't even 30p back then.

When I'd just left high school and got a job at my local Pub ... my Bos (my employer) bullshitted me into putting money on some horse with a promise of making a fortune . I was under considerable duress and a weird psychological situation to go along with it and I lost a heap when that fucking NAG shuffled in last .. I had to steal three bottles of Johnny Walker and a bucket of chocolate frogs over a period of three weeks to break even from that joint. FUCK HIM and fuck all that. ( I also stole some forks ... a three kilo bag of King prawns and a mug ... cos fuck that cunt )

My parents used to let me pick a horse and put 50p on it for me, this was late 70s to early 80s. My dad once had 6 race accumulator come in, he got around £650 winnings..a decent wedge in 1980 👍 but he was obviously pissed off that he didn't spend double on the bet!
