According to the department, the incident began just after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 near the intersection of Canal Street and North Galvez Street. Investigators say an officer patrolling the area saw 54-year-old Emmanuel Harris walking with a handgun and, at one point, pointing it at bystanders.
Police say Harris then ran into a convenience store on the corner, where officers saw him inside with a woman. The department says Harris appeared to be pointing the gun in the direction of which the woman was hiding in the store’s freezer — prompting a second responding officer, identified as Senior Police Officer Aaron Muse, to fire a single shot.
