The story goes during the 1980's hundreds of Cessnas were purchased by South American drug cartels. They were stripped to their bare bones to carry as much drugs and fuel as possible. These planes were often abandoned before making their journey and the aircraft languished hidden and forgotten in the jungle. Eventually they were discovered and repaired by local villagers. The villagers taught themselves how to fly and used the planes to deliver goods through their country. Now the planes are maintained with scavenged and home fashioned components and powered by a blend of automotive fuels.
